Variable Star Shawl
While this pattern is inspired by the wildly popular Hitchhiker knitted shawlette in regards to it’s shape and feature characteristics, my heart does not belong to that particular story… my heart belongs to Disney.
As a retired Leader for Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, it’s only natural that I find a way to link the number of teeth to Walt. During testing, I asked them to stop when they thought it was large enough. The teeth count varies from 16 – 23. Walt was 16 when he lied about his age and joined the ambulance corp, while 1923 is the year Walt left Kansas City for Hollywood where he founded what would become the Disney Studios. Even the original price of $3.50 is Disney oriented, as that was the cost of a Walt Disney World ticket on opening day - 1 October 1971. Although, as with all things this awesome, it is for a limited time. Once the initial sale is over, the price will go to the standard fee.
This pattern is an easy to memorize four row repeat that is sure to become an instant ‘go to’ favorite. I made mine in worsted weight, though it works beautiful in fingering and DK as well. Simply adjust your hook accordingly so that your fabric is pliable and airy, which will give you a nice drape.
