Woods Road Vest
Woods Road Vest is a seamless v-neck cardigan vest knit with worsted or light-aran weight yarn and knit from the top-down. It features optional waist shaping and easy garter stitch ridges for a simple, textured look.
Woods Road Vest has been revamped in 2025! Originally published in 2011, I have completed revamped this design to include more sizes, more detailed instructions and tutorials, and gave it top-down construction.
PATTERN DETAILS:
Sizes: 1 (2, 3, 4, 5) (6, 7, 8, 9, 10)
Finished Chest Circumference (as worn, with front bands overlapping):
32 (36, 39.5, 42.5, 46) (49, 52, 56.5, 59.5, 64)”/
81 (91, 100, 108, 117) (124, 132, 144, 151, 163) cm
Picking Your Size:
I suggest picking a size whose finished chest circumference is approx 0-4”/0-10 cm larger than your actual bust circumference, depending on your desired fit and how you plan to wear it (buttoned or open-style).
In the photos, I’m wearing the green version with no positive ease at the bust (for a very open-style look) and the yellow version with 2.5” of positive ease at the bust.
Gauge: 17 sts & 29 rows = 4”/10 cm in Garter Ridge st patt with Body needle, after blocking.
Yarn: Approx 575 (650, 725, 800, 875) (950, 1025, 1125, 1200, 1300) yds of worsted-weight or light-aran weight, shown in (green version): The Croft Aran by West Yorkshire Spinners (100% Wool; 100g = 182 yds), 4 (4, 4, 5, 5) (6, 6, 7, 7, 8) skeins, Delting.
Needles & Other Supplies:
• For Body: US 9/5.5 mm 24”/60 cm and 32”/80 cm circs, or size needed to obtain gauge.
• For Front Bands: US 8/5 mm 32”/80 cm or 40”/100 cm circ, or 1 needle size smaller than that used to get gauge.
• For Armhole Trim: US 8/5 mm 16”/40 cm circ, or 1 needle size smaller than that used to get gauge.
• Locking stitch markers.
• Stitch markers.
• Stitch holders or scrap yarn.
• Tapestry needle.
• 4 buttons, approx 7/8”/22-23 mm
