This complex shawl combines stranded knitting and lace motifs in a vibrant patchwork of natural shades and bright colors inspired by Tibetan carpets.

Knit on 3.25mm/US3 needles with Jamieson & Smith 2ply jumper weight yarn
Gauge: approx. 21sts and 23 rows = 4 inches/10cm in stranded pattern
Dimensions after blocking: 62in/160cm x 19.5in/50cm

I used various colors of Jamieson & Smith 2ply jumper weight yarn which comes in 25g balls or large cones.

The finished shawl weighs approximately 190g, the equivalent of 8 balls/1000yds/920m - but I used more than 8 shades:
FC56(purple) 93(red) FC50(light pink) 203(light grey) FC22(bright pink) 366(heathered purple) 3(sand) 202(off-white) 02(oatmeal) FC9(plum) FC 61(blue grey) 121(yellow) 125(rust) FC64(brown)

To recreate the color distribution of the sample, I estimate you’ll need 2 balls of purple, 2 of red, and 1 each of the other 12 shades - there will be plenty left over for another project!

You don’t have to stick to these colors - this is a good project for using up harmonious odds and ends.

Techniques include back and forth stranding, corrugated ribbing, intarsia and lace knitting on RS and WS rows, with 3 colors in each row. The main chart is quite wide and is divided over two landscape pages.
