Notes

October 20, 2012:
After much encouragement from my knit group, I submitted the shawl to NYSW (Rhinebeck) for the Skein and Garmet competition. I ended up winning First Place! It made my second trip to Rhinebeck totally memorable. The proctors told me folks asked all day about the color change and the design.

This will be submitted for the 2012 MDSW Skein and Garment competition.
UPDATE: No ribbon but many folks love it! Seems as though if there was a people’s choice award, I would’ve won in a landslide.

The colorway reminded me of the movie hot air balloon with primary red, yellow, and blue. I did the beads as brass beads for the Victorian love of everything brass.

Some notes before I forget.
I did the super bead option which meant that I replaced nupps with beads and did the bead parts too for the border. I think it worked out well.

I also ended the border 10 rows early as I was running out of yarn. This also meant that I did not do the crochet chain bind off called for. That was okay as it was a bit fussy for my taste on this project. Instead I used a JSSBO which gave enough stretch to block the “filler” portion of the border between the scrolls into a scalloped edge. I think it suits the project.
