Notes

I went to Value Village (thrift department store) and looked for a sheet I could tear up for rag yarn and they wanted $9 for an old used sheet. No thank you. I went to Walmart and bought new fabric for $2. I decided to go with a tan color. Since there is a bit of a brownish gray in the floor and I’m eventually going to paint the walls that color. The picture doesn’t really show the color very well.

This project takes about 8 yards of fabric if you don’t have a sheet to rip up. 2 yards of fabric torn into 1.5 inch sections is enough to knit up 1 and a half sections of the pattern or 3 “points” of the design (using size 19 needles). I didn’t have enough of the one color (and I bought out the store) so I had to get a color that would coordinate. I was buying off the clearance rack at walmart so that was really tough. I ended up with a olive green so my rug is going to be camo colors. Grrr. Oh well, it’s still better than buying an old stained sheet at the thrift store for $9. That’s gross. So buying the material on clearance at walmart I ended up paying $9 and some change but I don’t have to think about stains and what they might be.

Here is a youtube video that shows k1,p1 into double yarn-over. There is no talking just read the screen and watch what she does. It is easy but it helps to see her do it.

2/13/13 - so I finished one section and I’m obviously going to need more rag yarn. I used almost all of what I had. This thing is going to be a lot bigger than what I expected. I really wish my needles were longer. They are 13 inches and the stitches keep falling off the end. I tied a scrap of cotton yarn I had real tight around the knob end of my needle so any loops that slip off will be caught on the yarn

Another Raveler that made this had stitch counts that I was following but I think I found a small typo. Here is what I ended up with.

Row 1: 26
Row 2: 24/2 unworked
Row 3: 27
Row 4: 23/4
Row 5: 28
Row 6: 22/6
Row 7: 30
Row 8: 22/8
Row 9: 30
