Notes

Inspired by this Star Trek fanfic, Glitter (heed the rating!). I have wanted to make a shawl based on this for YEARS AND IT’S FINALLY HERE!

Beads are 6/0 Czech glass E-beads, clear, silver foil lined, square holes, from Jo-Ann, 2 tubes were enough for all the stars and the last body row before the edging. 4 tubes (Jo-Ann) plus 250g (fusionbeads.com) of the same but AB (iridescent) instead of plain clear. Not using 8/0 dark amber AB beads that I ordered. Have added one star for Orion’s sword.

Edging is torchon lace from VLT (p. 158) with beads added. 106 beads per repeat x 34 (33.88) repeats around = 3604 AB beads.

The swatch wanted to skew, but it blocked out square no problem.

Used #2 needles for the beginning/chart A to avoid the “nipple” phenomenon.

Attached second skein in chart F7, row 118. Spit splice was very effective!

Body is only worked through row 151 (finishing Orion) because I’ve had about enough … and because Bacardi 151 is one of the ingredients in a Vulcan Mind Probe. It’s not because I’m lazy. Nope. Not at all. Has nothing to do with the two hours it would take to do it as written. Two hours seems like not much but trust me. Oh wait I mean that’s not why. Really …

EDGING: setup
Row 152: knit, adding two stitches (total 578).
Row 153: knit, beading every other stitch (289 beads, not-AB).

Work edging sideways with one-stitch garter border on inner edge and AB beads.

Edging begun on 3 March with 11g of yarn remaining. This did 4.5 repeats, 2.44g per repeat means 83g for the entire edging (72g beyond the skeins used for the body; will probably need to spin more).

Each repeat of the edge chart is 2.9% of the total border.

Used skeins 1, 2, and 3 of the yarn, and a very tiny bit of skein 4.

Mass of finished shawl is 402g. This means the beads are 237g, or 59% of the total.
