I found the directions in another Raveler’s project notes here: http://www.ravelry.com/projects/holeymolee/christmas-orna....
These are extremely quick projects, it took a little under an hour to make each ornament from cast-on to globe arrangement. And it’s a great way to use up yarn scraps.
Here’s the general instructions for what I did:
- Cast on about 15 stitches on US2 needles. If using smaller hollow ornaments, may want to cast on a few less.
- I used both fingering and DK weight. Any heavier, and it may be too thick to stuff into ornament.
- Knit for about 1.5 to 2 inches
- Knit last row onto a toothpick.
- Glue small beads onto ends of toothpicks and trim off point by bead to make the needles.
- Put a bit of glue on the first few stitches on toothpick to hold in place. Clear nail polish also works.
- Cut yarn, leaving a long end. Either wind into small ball and use a bit of glue to hold in place, or wind around two fingers and tie in place with another scrap of yarn.
- Carefully stuff finished knit swatch into ornament after glue has dried.
- Use DPN’s, tweezers, or other poking utensils to arrange items inside globe. Gentle and careful shaking also assists in the arrangement process.
- I tied an end of yarn into a bow at the top, and made a loop of yarn to hang the globe with.
- Admire your mini knit project!!
