So, if you have an issue putting the laundry away, and your spouse uses your preschooler’s washcloth, expect to receive an order for a bunch more washcloths. And since I was buying the cotton, we offered the preschooler her choice of new colours (since it’s not like she got to pick the original colour), and she’s getting one too.
I was told to exactly copy the original (going to new baby), so here’s what I’m reading it as
Butterfly wings (original)
ABABA repeats in body of cloth
all even rows are purled
work 3 sts garter stitch for border at each edge of cloth
CO 71 sts, work 5 rows garter st
A:
1: k1, m1, ssk, k4, k2tog, k3, m1, k1
3: k1, m1, k1, ssk, k2, k2tog, k4, m1, k1
5: k1, m1, k2, ssk, k2tog, k5, m1, k1
7: k1, m1, k3, ssk, k4, k2tog, m1, k1
9: k1, m1, k4, ssk, k2, k2tog, k1, m1, k1
11: K1, m1, k5, ssk, k2tog, k2, m1, k1
B:
1: k1, m1, k3, ssk, k4, k2tog, m1, k1
3: k1, m1, k4, ssk, k2, k2tog, k1, m1, k1
5: k1, m1, k5, ssk, k2tog, k2, m1, k1
7: k1, m1, ssk, k4, k2tog, k3, m1, k1
9: k1, m1, k1, ssk, k2, k2tog, k4, m1, k1
11: k1, m1, k2, ssk, k2tog, k5, m1, k1
Finish after row 71 in pattern, 5 rows knit, cast off.
With purple had enough yarn left to have worked more rows
Chevron: CO 62 sts (includes garter st border), 5 rows garter
ssk, k4, m1, k2, m1, k4, k2tog, repeat across. (m1 are mirrored, lifting stitch below of k2)
Chevron would work better with different increases (so both stitches are in column) or a s2kp (i.e. a cdd) for the decreases (decrease 1 stitch in repeat - or add 1 and go to k5) so there’s one stitch to match the apparent one.
61 rows give basically square.
Cloth size
Purple: started with 51.6g, ended with 3.2g. I worked 81 rows total (i.e. including garter st start & stop) in a butterfly wings cloth, Excel says I could have worked 5 rows more.
Green: used 40g, had 11g left over. Enough excess that there’s no point in calculating. - in picture picked up a spot from use before I got the pic
Yellow: started with 52.6 g, had 4.15 left over. Usage appears to have been the same as for purple, but as I started with 1g more, I finished with 1g more (rounding error is as likely due to the scale as to the cast-on, or how I trimmed ends or…)
