Notes

Started late but catching up fast. I hope later clues do not drag too long - as in time between release dates.

note on my notes: bold clue headers indicate where I have made modifications

20110611
2130h
CO for square in yellow while listening to story
working magic loop
clue 3 - 9 st nupps at outer cross points & brown beads (leftover from battle-weary dragon shawl) for 8 inner marks
2330h
clue 4 dbl left leaning decs as sssk except for at peak
uh, done that clue after abt 90 min of knitting
started clue 5 before finally going to bed around 2am. two cafe lattes before bed wasn’t a well-considered plan.

20110612
clue 6 mirroring decreases on left side of chart because even though directionality not important to the pattern, I find that when working with previous YO sts direction does affect the look.
Added beads to twisted sts of scarabs.

20110613
Finished clue 6 and first 2 rows of 7.
Have I mentioned how much I love this?

20110614
clue 7 worked the 4-stitch decreases so that side petal tips would point up. That is, SSSK then K4tog.

20110615
Working the nupp version of chart 8 with 9 sts (to match previous nupps) because of cobweb weight yarn. Intentional nupp increases are better than unintentional… but the increases seem “easier” when it’s by accident. An interesting new technique to add to my lace skill set.
BTW, I work my nupps with backwards YOs and I knit tog tbl on next round.

20110617
Started China clue (9). Nice and relaxing.

20110625
Ah, clue 10 is up. After much consideration - yes several hours is “much”! - and with the help of other KALers who provided handy illustrations of chart alignments, I’m working this as AABB.
I’m also sticking to all nupps. In part because I love nupps. In part because I can’t be bothered to carry about the extra supplies for beads. And in part because with my yellow yarn I can’t think of any beads that would make me think of cherry blossom trees. In another colour, I’d have added soft pink beads.
(next time….)
Found a mistake from previous chart somewhere as I was working first row of nupps. “Fixed” it by working the nupp that wasn’t lining up properly into two sts. TaDa. Now if you’ll excuse me I have 9 sts to Ktogtbl.

20110730
Clue 11 - changed to 3.75mm needle because 1) suggested to increase size to keep the star stitches from puckering and 2) I needed to use the 3.5mm needles for a test knit due soon. Not much difference in size, really. I’m still making sure I make the stars loosely.

20110827
Clue 12 - finally home from vacation where I did not get a chance to start this clue (released mid-vacation) even though I sketched it out (computer but no printer access). Was too busy with a test knit that exceeded size stated. Now starting this clue with a printed chart. YAY! Will not be knitting multiples of this chart for a bigger shawl. Plenty of time to work on this and my own other design…

20110926
Failed to work on clue 12 for a long while. Approaching Rd 28, and then another 18 to go… Will not be finished in time for first edging clue.

20111229
Yellow yarn ran out at the end of the second repeat of R16 (clue 12 part II), so changed to orange and began edging clue. Making up for missing corner sts by only work first and last K3tog of each side as K2tog (or SSK as needed obviously).

20120713
Picked this project up again recently after an extended break from it. (Something about pregnancy, knit-aversion, moving, twins…) Planning to finish in time for late Sept wedding… and hoping to finish with enough time and yarn to whip up a stole for the bride…
Currently on R22 of the edging. Not “too much” longer.

20120903
Ready to start the crochet BO. Skipping the last pair of rows… bad me, but I want to ensure this shawl will be ready to wear to my SIL’s wedding on the 22nd. I know the BO will take a while and I’ll need opportunity to block this monster!

20120906
BO with 2.5mm and went much faster than expected!
Now to block.
