My younger sister Ann has asked me to make her an aran lapghan for her birthday in December.

She wanted a shabby-chic look and chose Stylecraft meadow for the colour. This is going to be a solid colour lapghan and not the usual 2 colour + that I usually make.

I will be making other things in between, as I always like to have one of these blankets on the hook.

I have just purchased Bonnies new book, Celtic Contemporary Crochet. It is a great book, with loads of lovely patterns.

Note to Self:

I added an extra bobble to the tip of the heart which meant an extra row.

When adding the top and bottom borders in woven stitch, don’t forget to work a sc row first, for a neater finish.

For a few tips see below:-

Popcorn - 4 + 1 over 4 rows (I always use dc instead of sc and don’t change hook size as recommended, (I make my Popcorns with 4 dc ch1 sc ch1 4dc popcorn).

Cable = 3 + 1 over 2 rows

Arrow = 4 + 2 over 2 rows

Celtic Weave = 4 + 2 over 4 rows (I would use a size larger hook for this one as it does nip in at the edges)

Basket-weave = 6 + 1 over 6 rows (I always use a size smaller hook for this pattern and work an extra row of beige before and after the basket-weave to give a neater appearance).
