It is Annabel’s birthday today and I thought I would make her American Girl doll, Mini Bel a Minnie Mouse outfit, as she is going to Florida at Easter and she will be buying another two dolls while she is there. I thought she could take the outfit with her for one of her new dolls to wear whilst in Florida.

Below are the directions to make your own hat.

I worked in a spiral to avoid a seam line.

With black yarn
Ch 4, make a ring.
R1: 6 sc (6)
R2: 2sc in each sc (12)
R3: 2sc in 1st sc, 1 sc all around (18)
R4: 2sc in 1st sc, sc in next 2 sc all around (24)
R5: 2sc in 1st sc, sc in next 3 sc all around (30)
R6: 2sc in 1st sc, sc in next 4 sc all around (36)
R7: 2sc in 1st sc, sc in next 5 sc all around (42)
R8: 2sc in 1st sc, sc in next 6 sc all around (48)
R9: 2sc in 1st sc, sc in next 7 sc all around (54)
R10 - R14: work sc in each stitch (54)
Fasten off by sl st into next st.

With red yarn

R15 - R23 work sc in each st (54)

Fasten off.

Polka dots:

Ch 2 and work 6 sc into 1st st, fasten off, leaving a long tail to sew the dot onto the hat.

Bow:

Chain 15,

Row 1: hdc in each chain(14)
Row 2-5: hdc in each stitch (14)
Row 6: sc all around the edge with 3sc in each corner.
Fasten off.

Sew a running stitch through the centre of the bow and gather up, then wrap the yarn around a few times and sew to the centre of the hat, joining to the ears on each side.

Ears: Mark 2

I used 2 strands of yarn to make them more stable.

Work as for hat until you have 30 sts, fasten off.

Sew ears to each side of the hat.

I sewed the middle of the bow to the top centre of the hat and also sewed the bow to the ears for stability.
