See Stock Socks v1.0 for the back story to these.
Version 1.1 was a short row toe using one wrapping technique that said it wasn’t gappy. It lied. Version 1.2’s story with a different wrapping technique has the same ending.
So I found Pricilla Wild’s no-wrap technique, and it was a bit gappy on this first sock, ‘cause I (ahem) did it wrong. It will be allowed to live though, ‘cause even with that, it’s less gappy than them wrapped boogers. It’s mate, with the short rows done correctly is coming along nicely and is a lot more satisfying.
Pretty much the same math, though. Size US 5 needles, provisionally cast on 27, the short row toe has 5 held stitches on each end with 17 live ones in the middle. Then it’s 54 stitches around for the foot until just 2 inches shy of the target length for my foot.
The short row heel has 9 held on each end, with 9 live ones in the middle.
The cuff, lol, is hilarious. The beauty of toe-up socks is that ya just keep working until ya run out of yarn, right? No waste.
Well, after a bit of plain stockinette for the leg, I guesstimated that I had just enough left for a nice little cuff. I didn’t know this yarn was never-ending! Holy crap, if I had known it could make that much more length, I would’ve waited a few more inches before the ribbed cuff, lol.
It’s okay, and looks kinda cute folded down. But next time, with this yarn, I betcha I could get two anklets out of just one ball. Unbelievable.
