I useed one strand of Red Heart SS with any scrap yarn I had - even little bits of a few inches. Great way to use up all those little odds and sods! Waste not, want not, they say!

I tried to group all the scraps in a colourway, so all the red bits, then all the blue bits etc. Didn’t take that long as I just used trebles (DC in US) on a biggish hook.
