Making more mittens “like this” for my Peanut, who is now going to be a big sister! She says stripes are good for mittens and gloves. I couldn’t agree more! :)
I’m also making fingers before the flap…just for fun!
Checking out my notes from this project before I start!
Here we go!:
Cast on 44 sts, german twisted.
2x2, 40 rounds.
Switch to stockinette stitch, knit 4 rows before starting thumb gusset.
Inc for thumb on rows 5, 7, 9, 11 and 13.
Slip 11+2 thumb sts to holder on row 15.
Cast on 3 sts, and continue in st st until round 21 is finished. On round 22, purl the stitches on the back of the hand.
Fingers
On rnd 34 - knit to pinky, place non-pinky sts on holder. Work pinky finger over 10+2sts, for 8 rnds in st st, 6 rnds in 1x1 rib, bind off.
Ring finger is 4+5sts from holders, 3 from pinky, 2 in gap (total of 14sts). Work 12 rnds in st st, 6 rnds in 1x1 rib, bind off.
Middle fnger is 6+5 sts from holders, 3 from ring finger, 2 in gap (16 total). Work 16 rnds in st st, 6 rinds 1x1 rib & bo.
Index finger is remaining 7+7+2 in the gap. Work 12 rnds in st st, 6 rnds in 1x1 rib, bind off.
Thumb - 13+5, knit for 20 rnds, dec & bo.
Mitten Flap
Cast on 22, then pick up the 22 stitches on the back of the hand. Join and, working in the round, knit 12 rounds 2x2 rib over cast on sts, knit plain on back of mitten. Switch to stockinette stitch for 20 more rounds (decreasing 2 stitches on last round - 42 total sts), then start decreases…
(K5, k2tog) around. (36)
K plain.
(K4, k2tog) around. (30)
K plain.
Continue decreasing, as established, until there are 12sts left. Close top of mitten by drawing tail through all stitches, or with kitchener stitch.
