I wasn’t really interested in knitting this in 5 pieces, so I made some modifications.
Gauge: approx 25 stch=10 cm in pattern
Cast on front and back pieces together (minus the button bands, as I wanted to do them in a different color later). Knit until the piece measured 17 cm (last row: row 3 of pattern).
I am trying to figure out how to do raglan sleeves as well. Cast on for arms and increased every 4th row (the purl row when viewed from the right side). Did this until I had two extra boxes on each side of the arm - 16 extra stitches per arm. Then I knit straight up until the sleeve measured 16 cm (last row: row 3 of pattern).
Added the arms to the body; 36 stch (front piece)- 6 stch under arm - 69 stch (back piece). I am doing the raglan decreases on every right side row, with one purled center stitch between decreases. Had to do some fiddling to make sure that there was an equal number of knit stitches on each side of each raglan, and also that the two front decreases and the two back decreases were symmetrical. I could probably have made all 4 decrease sections identical, but that got too complicated for me.
Knit 16 decrease rounds. On the next wrong side row I k2tog on every box (every 4th stch). Did two more decrease rounds with the slimmer boxes, an the decreased one stitch per box on the next wrong side rod before changing color and knitting garter around the neck.
Knit button bands. Sewed together under arms.
6 button holes. The body could probably have been a little longer before the raglan started, but I am still happy with the result.
Made a matching hat with the left over yarn. The hat and the jacket together used 3 dark brown skeins, and about 1/2 a skein of light brown.
