I made these for a friend of mine whose husband recently passed away from brain cancer. She works for the same company as my daughter (The Traveling Vineyard), and that fabulous company decided to offer a wine (Bella Mente, an Italian Pinot Grigio) dedicated to her husband, Ted, where they donate $1.00 from each bottle purchased to the American Brain Tumor Association. She sold several bottles of this wine to friends that helped her through the tough times before AND after Ted passed. She saw the wine bottle cozies I made for my daughter and wondered if I could incorporate the gray cancer ribbon into the pattern somehow so she could give her friends their bottles of wine in a nice wine bottle cozy that would honor Ted. After a lot of trial and error, I was able to adapt the original pattern by using a graph of the ribbon and changing the main bottle rows to single crochet instead of double crochet, which meant twice as many rows to get the height of the original pattern. I had 4 different shades of gray (the color of the ribbon for brain cancer) and I used every different combination of background/ribbon/tie I could with the yarn I had. So these are my cancer ribbon wine cozies.
