Inspired by Sue Pinner’s Star Curtain, I am embarking on a Star Blanket for my Mum who has alzheimers and is mostly bed ridden. Designed to be a splash of colour on the bed rather than give warmth, it will be in a rainbow of colours, edged and joined with white.
I found a star pattern that looks very much like Sue’s at -

although I just did 12 trebles for my centres rather than clusters.
This is the link to Sue’s pattern -

Apparently, this link doesn’t work anymore, so try the two below, or maybe contact Sue direct??

(Update, these links don’t work either… suggest you use the little chart in the photos, which comes from the 1st website I mentioned.)
I’ve made a couple of dozen so far, and the latest batch is pinned to shape, as they start out a bit curly…
I’m not sure how many I’ll need yet, so I’m aiming for 100 before I start joining them with white.
I don’t want to get half way through and find I need to stop and make more stars…
Two months in and I have another 6 to make, which will give me 14 of each colourway. I’ll try arranging them then to see if there’s enough and then start joining them together.
Mid-May. I made 98 stars altogether and have started joining them with eight stars in the first row and nine in the next, and will join 11 rows. That should be 93 stars with 5 spares.
I’ve joined half of them already and it’s looking very good but I think I need to come up with some sort of border or the edging stars will very quickly become just scrunched up.
Mum died towards the end of June. I will finish her blanket one day. All the stars are safety pinned in place ready to go. Just not yet.

I got the star blanket out of hibernation today and hope to have it finished very soon.
I have seen a join-as-you-go method this week which claim to work with hexagons - and therefore 6 pointed stars - so I’m giving that a try. And O.M.G.!!!! It’s working up just soooooooooooooo much faster when you join as you go! No more stopping every 5 minutes to stitch 2 ends in. I’ll be using this method again. And again. And again!!
