This sweater knit up very quickly. The upper back and upper front each took only 1.5 hours to knit and it felt like nothing because the lace pattern was fun. I found it helpful to place a stitch marker after the lace portion and before all the knit stitches on each row. That way I could be sure I didn’t make a mistake. (For example: if the pattern said, “knit 18 sts, work lace pattern, knit 19 sts” I placed a stitch marker before the final 19 stitches.)
I had to use different sized needles for working the flat portion of the sweater and working the in-the-round portion. My gauge in the round was spot on with size 6 needles. I used size 5 needles when working flat and my stitch gauge was a little big so I worked the front and back as for the 32” bust. I had 67 stitches each for the front and back after increasing and before casting on the underarm stitches. My row gauge was also a little big so I started my increase rows at row 46 instead of row 50 for a 7.5” armhole depth. I switched to size 6 needles when I joined the front and the back in the round.
I cast on the same number of underarm stitches and continued with the rest of the pattern as written for the 34” bust, but with 4 fewer stitches throughout. I used size 5 needles for the body and sleeve ribbing because it looked sloppy when I did it with size 6 needles.
I worked the sleeves as directed for the 34” bust. I used DPNs instead of a 16” circular. For the short rows I had a situation going on with two 24” circulars and it worked out pretty well.
I love the proportions of this sweater. The sleeves and the body are the perfect length. I needed something to wear with my black and white skirts, and this sweater is perfect.
