A little baby doll for my dear friend Elizabeth’s granddaughter Nora. Doll hands altered by following the basic idea from the arms of the Lola doll pattern. I dislike knitting the fiddly thumb from this baby doll pattern and I like the shape of the Lola doll hand and thumb better. As the Lola doll pattern starts at the hand, I knit the arm backwards and finished the shoulder as the baby doll pattern starts the shoulder, using stitch counts from the baby doll pattern throughout.
Elizabeth made a matching outfit for her granddaughter (third/fourth pic) - SO ADORABLE!!!!
12/27 Nora given her outfit and her doll - Elizabeth did an amazing job finding coordinating yarns and knitting up the outfit - love it! Tunic and Leggings.
Booties: Tosh DK Twist in Filtered Day Dreams
Knit on US 1 and altered the pattern by removing the two edge stitches, knitting in the round and omitting the last two increases in the sole on either edge which results in 45 total stitches when beginning the upper part of the bootie. Only did 4 of the six pattern repeats on the upper before binding off. No edge crochet.
Leggings: DROPS baby merino in Light Sea Green, fingering weight
Legs (make 2)
c/o 36 stitches with US 2, join in the round and work 12 rounds in K2/P2 rib.
Next, in stockinette, knit 38 rounds.
On first leg cast on 5 stitches and cut yarn leaving a longish tail.
On second leg cast on 5 stitches and join both legs together placing the 5 cast on stitches on each leg between the legs in front and back.
Knit 2 rounds.
Divide stitches in half, placing stitch markers on the left and right sides of the pants, creating a back and a front ~ 40 stitches for the front and 42 stitches for the back. Work short rows across the back of the pants until you have 8 wrapped stitches on both sides of the back. At the same time knit one round in between each of the pairs of short rows. For example, on the first repeat, knit to one stitch before marker, w&t, knit to one stitch before the second marker w&t. Then knit one complete round (including the stitches on the front of the pants) picking up and knitting wraps on this round. Repeat eight times total.
Remove markers on the sides and knit 3 complete rounds. Switch to US 1 and knit one round, increasing to 92 stitches evenly. Continue in K2/P2 rib for 16 rounds and bind off with US 3. Close up the hole between the legs and weave in ends.
I wanted to fold up the ends of the leggings so I knit them to the specified length. To obtain the same length without folding knit only 30 rounds on each leg instead of 38. Also, these leggings have been designed specifically for how I put the legs on this doll (and all of my baby dolls) - the legs are positioned towards the front of the body creating a larger ‘bottom’ which required the short rows to have enough fabric to cover the back.
Hair knit as per pattern with Sinfonia yarn held double.
