24Dec2010: Some thoughts:

1) I highly suggest to do the body ribbing with a smaller circular needle (2 sizes down) as it’s quite loose compared to the tight cable panel. Someday I might rip out the ribbing, lengthen the body and do a tighter ribbing… depends on how it wears over time.

2) You can easily knit the sleeve chart from the top down so as to customize length and width, it is the same cable techniques (as are all charts, really). I provisionally cast-on the 67 sts, knit 4 rows then joined the mini-sleeves to the body to finish the yoke and neck. I picked up the provisional cast-on, and switched the right and left sleeve charts, because I wanted the pattern to encroach inward to my wrist. With guidance from Ann Budd’s Handy Book of Sweater Patterns sleeve charts, I decreased 2 sts every 12 rows (about 6 times) until the elbow, and then let the cable pattern take in the sleeve on its own.

3) For the sleeve cables, I omitted the decreases on rows 74-76. For the right sleeve (and therefore the left sleeve chart), I started the 6-stitch cable (in row 73) 21 stitches after the start of the row. The right sleeve is a bit easier because the cables increase in width the same direction as your knitting. For the left sleeve (and right sleeve chart), you will have to place the stitch cable so it ends 21 sts before the end of your row, which means starting it at 26 sts before the end of the row.

4) I started my sleeve cables 11 inches before my wrist and I added one more widening cable repeat (7 cables long instead of 6). I did not extend the cables to the inside wrist, I kept it at k4,p4.

5) The size 33” really is 33”-34”, despite the largeness of its looks on Twist!

6) As this cardigan would look rather silly open, I sewed the opening shut to make a much neater closure.

7) Only used 2 skeins of 3… 1000 yards only!

18Nov2010: I tried a group of bobbles and decided to omit them. It gave the sweater an ornate feeling I didn’t want. I still think they are interesting in the pattern though, and hope to see both versions from people.

15Nov2010: I have this vague notion of using up all of my 2010 Rhinebeck stash by the end of 2010. Crazy, especially since 10% of my 2008 stash has been used in total.

I like this. I was looking for something just like this for this yarn, BUT the sleeves are faaaaar too wide. I’m going to slim them up drastically. I will start with the body, for more fun. I will provisionally cast-on the sleeves and knit just a tiny bit and connect for the yoke. Then I will knit the sleeves downward, cutting out most of the stockinette after the elbow.

Also, the model is wearing a 33”?? Hello positive ease? I guess I’m a 33”, too?
