Blogged here: Beaded Shawls Part I: The Lazy Way!

5June2013: OK, smart people. Don’t be a dummy like me and get PINBURN on your thumb from trying to block this girl incorrectly! Seriously: a red welt on my thumb in the shape of a pin-head was recieved. The lovelies at Twist Collective have provided a blocking schematic… yes, that is for blocking, not skimming past. Still, it was a bitch, my goodness.

So, if I had made this with Kidsilk Haze it would have very prettily held it’s lace shape. The Kidsilk Haze Glamour is thicker and has quite a bit of synthetic content, and it bounces back a bit after blocking. It’s still soft, but the synthetic is, in my opinion, noticeable.

HOWEVER, the sequins CANNOT BE BEAT. This is not like buying a Hershey’s Almond bar and finding 1 almond (chopped) total… oh no. This is like Swiss Ragusa… with so many hazelnuts you struggle to find the chocolate!! I will now coin the term “SPI” or “Sequins Per Inch” as a veritable rating term for beaded yarns. This shawl is littered… no… BOMBED with sequins! JUST WHAT I WANTED.

By the way, don’t be tempted to weave in an end with a sequin on it. I tried, I failed. Take a pair of scissors and chop that little guy in half first!

30May2013: I received a ball of Rowan Kidsilk Haze Glamour to review as part of being a Rowan Ambassador. But only one of something with sequins?! No way! =D I didn’t want to break the bank, so I opted for 3 total.

Stellaria takes 520 yds according to the pattern. I have 531! But I’m really close to the end and wonder if I’ll even make it into the 3rd ball. Darn. I really wish patterns would give a better yardage estimate when they call for really long skeins. AS USUAL, I didn’t do my homework.
