Went down a needle size and used fingering instead of sport or DK weight yarn in order to get a newborn size. I first attempted making the 0-6 month size which looked huge to me when finished (though very, very cute!). I’m expecting twins, and even if everything goes perfectly, they’ll still probably be pretty tiny, and I wanted to make sure the boots would fit them in the hospital. So, I went back to the drawing board, made a few mods, and I think I now have a good method for getting these adorable boots wearable for their home-from-the-hospital outfit.

Mods for newborn size:

Sole
CO 5
work 3 sets of increases (you’ll have 2 less stitches between each of the increased stitches, other than that the instructions are the same)
work 17 rows (instead of 21)
work 1 set of increase rows (see note on increases above)
work 9 rows (instead of 11)
work 3 sets of decrease rows (there will be two less sts between the decreases in each row)

Upper
Pick up 48 sts around edge of sole. Work 2 rounds in k1 p1 ribbing (join to knit in the round).

work 4 sets of k1b, p1 rounds alternated with k1 p1 rounds.

Work exact same decrease pattern for toe, just adjust the stitches before and after the decreases to compensate for the different stitch count. On last decrease round in the ribbing section, begin and end that round with an ssk.

only work 5 total rounds of garter stitch instead of 7 before starting the button tab.
