4/27/10 - So, I started this one while the Flaming Pinafore was still on the needles. Why? Because I decided to fill in my KnitPicks Harmony set with the US10.75 needles. Otherwise, I was going to have a jump of 1.5mm in needle size in the middle of the project, after differences of .5mm and before differences of 1mm. I didn’t want such a large and disproportionate size gap.
So, since I’d gotten the Flaming Pinafore to the 2nd needle size increase--which meant I’d need the US10.75 needles--I decided to go ahead and cast on for this one.
It’s a good thing I did. See, I’d managed to miss an entire paragraph in the pattern, back in the yoke section…the paragraph that instructed me to continue for several more rows of garter stitch in the contrasting color after the stitch increases and before splitting out the front and back stitches.
On the plus side, I’ve got this project up the same point as the other one (without any errors) and guess what arrived today? A package from KnitPicks, with my US10.75 needles!
(later) - Wow, this really knits up quickly. By the pattern, I’ve only got one more section of the lace to knit up on the largest needles, but I’m not sure it’s as long as I’d like. And, seeing as it’s 11:43pm, I don’t think this is the time to try the pinafore on Lexie. So my plan is to wait until tomorrow, put it on Lexie, and see how the length works on her. If I need to add another lace repeat, I want to do it with the next-to-largest set of needles, not the largest; that’ll fit with the way the length that’s knit has been decreasing as the needle size increases.
4/29/10 - Done! All I need is a button; gotta go shopping this weekend.
Lexie says her top is “booteeful!” I have to agree.
