Notes

Needed to give my hands rest from small-needle knitting. Stray skeins of Shelter on the shelf seemed perfect for this very long, very easy scarf.

Stitch pattern is essentially one set-up row and then a repetition of Row 2 until the end. Highly recommended for beginner who wants to venture beyond straight sc or dc. I was a bit puzzled by the directions until I saw that the ch3 at the beginning of the row counts as a sc plus 2ch and is where to insert the hook at the end of the subsequent row.

The stitch pattern reates a fabric with a thick crunchy texture, that still has enough drape to wrap easily. My experience with Shelter is that it softens up after a nice soapy bath.

The annoyances of this yarn--occasional bits of straw, fragility when yanked, and in the case of one skein 4 knots!--are minor when measured against the beauty of the colorations and the excellence of the fabric that is created with both knit and crochet.
