Okay, maybe these should be called “Petrochemicalmitts,” but they are for Vegan Niece.

I don’t care much for this yarn--it’s fairly splitty--but it isn’t completely scratchy--and the color isn’t too awful, but, sigh, it is not wool.

The basic pattern of these mitts is Susan Lawrence’s Ragtop, but I wanted to match them to Alex Tinsley’s Catacomb beanie. Here’s what I did:

1. Substituted a k1,p1 rib for the k2,p2 rib.
2. Substituted the Catacomb stitch pattern for the stockinette over half the stitches, leaving the thumbs and the palms in stockinette.
3. Worked the thumb at the beginning of the round for the right hand mitt and at the end of the round for the left hand mitt. In the Ragtop pattern both mitts are knit identically.
