Smaller needles: cast on 88; join

Knit 10 garter ridges in the round (Row 1 Knit, Row 2 Purl)

Switch to larger needles
Knit in stockinette until measured 7” from cast on edge

Place markers every 12 sets; resume garter stitch
Decrease after marker (sl 1, K 1, psso) on knit row
Decrease until 24 sts remain, on next row repeat decreases around until 12 sts remain, break yarn and gather stitches

I like the spiral pattern created on the crown in the decrease section.
