Named this “Bidding Spring Arise”.

My Level 3 Master Knitter sweater. (Must be an original design, with a written pattern.)

Only one size is required in the MHK program, so this was written for one size.

Named for the second line in the poem ‘Spring’ by Adelaide Anne Procter.

Notes:
Fair Isle button-front cardigan worked in 10 colors. Corrugated rib hem, cuff, buttonbands and collar. Slightly modified drop shoulder. Sandwiched steeks. Steek facings on armscye openings. Duplicate stitch flowers on sleeves and body.

Timeline:
Going with a Fair Isle or Scandinavian sweater, can’t decide which yet…

5/7/13 - researching motifs and exploring design ideas…
thinking NC themes - dogwoods, cardinals, lighthouses, airplanes….
5/20 - got yarn for swatching.
8/18 - starting to swatch…
10/10 - had a new idea, thinking of putting the NC theme on the back burner and going with my new idea. Charting anew….
Have new design mostly all charted out. Have cuffs figured out (still don’t know about the collar, but I’ll figure it out in a bit) Not sure yet how I’ll handle the sleeve caps - whether I want to do dropped shoulder or a set in style sleeve. I’ll figure that out soon too!
11/18 - started on cuff of first sleeve. I’d better figure out the shoulder shaping asap, I guess! :-)
1/4/14 - finished first sleeve. Went with dropped shoulder design. Well on the way with the second sleeve, since I started the second cuff at the same time as the first, but stopped when I had to change needle sizes. Finalizing body details as I work on second sleeve so I can start right away on the body…
1/18 - finished second sleeve, weaving in ends…
1/19 - decided I need to adjust the tops of the sleeves to have a small underarm seam, so I’m ripping back the last few rows and fixing the steek flap accordingly.
1/19 - finished body calculations and casted on body. Doing the foldover hem flat, then I’ll join in the round with a steek when I start the corrugated ribbing.
1/23 - past foldover hem, started on colorwork for body.
1/27 - OMG, ran out of one of my colors, NOOOO!!! Crap, Crap, Crap.
1/31 - a kind Raveler had some skeins for sale, and I got them in the mail today! yay! I’ve been weaving in ends and writing up the pattern in the meantime, but now tonight I can get to knitting on the body again!
2/8 - made a mistake in my armhole location calculations, have to rip back about 12 rows of work. It’s okay, since I also decided the sweater needs to be a bit longer as well! :-)
2/14 - started neckline decreases.
2/20 - finished body…reinforcing steeks…
2/21 - cut all the steeks. Wove in ends.
2/22 - blocking. Found buttons I’m going to use. Swatching for buttonholes…
2/23 - hems grew more than my gauge swatch showed (really the whole thing grew more than my gauge swatch predicted!!) - so those will need to be ripped out and redone. :-( I’m ordering a silk blend laceweight to do that in instead. Hopefully I can fix the ‘mistake’. The fit should be fine - just a tad bit roomier that I originally planned, but still good.
2/24 - decided to do a decorative/firm bind off instead of the hems. Should work out better and look just as nice.
2/25 - I’ve swatched for the buttonholes, and I think I have some nice looking buttonholes.
2/26 - fixed both sleeve cuffs. I’m happy with how they look. I’ve picked up stitches to fix the bottom hem - I’ll finish that today. Calculated my row gauge and stitch gauge for the buttonband pickup (they’re the same! yay!) So I’ll start on the buttonband later today as well.
2/28 - finished button band, started on buttonhole band. Taking photos as I do the sandwiched steek for a blog post on it…
3/3 - finished buttonhole band. Started on collar.
- had to go to Ohio over week of 3/3-3/7, so I didn’t have any knitting time.
3/10 - finished collar.
3/11 - started on duplicate stitch flowers.3/13 - finished flowers. Seaming sleeves to body…
12:17am on 3/14 - DONE.
I’ll block it once more tomorrow (or later today! lol!) and then take pictures on Saturday and mail it off on Monday!!!

5/29/14 - Passed!!

10/25/14 - entered in garment competition at SAFF and it won first place!
