Notes

My friend’s Mom, who lives in Siberia churns out these cute boots and booties in staggering quantities. I have never seen anything similar to them. Her aunt has taught her how to make them many years ago. Apparently they are made in a very small region in Siberia.
I have admired these “socklets” (this is how she calls them) since the first time I have seen them. They are usually used at home, over the socks, instead of or together with slippers to ward off the cold.
The “socklets” are knit straight, not in the round on two needles, but they are knit in one piece and are amazingly seamless.
When my Friend’s Mom came to visit her daughter here, in Israel, I had to learn the technique. Nina was very generous with her time and showed me the techniques she uses to make these beautiful slippers. There is no pattern. She knits them just like she cooks. A dollop of ribbing, a dash of increases, and some garter stitch rows to balance it all. If it does not fit this person, it will surely fit another.
I am now working on the written pattern in different sizes.
