double knit bookmarks with Tevinter heraldry from Dragon Age

This is a demonstration of why when you’re charting a design to knit you need to use knitter’s graph paper rather than ordinary graph paper. Knit stitches are sort of short and fat - the graph paper I charted this on, for example, allots the same space to 40 stitches as to 50 rows, so the stitches are short and you need more of them to make the same dimension with rows that you would with fewer stitches…

On the right is the original bookmark knit in the correct chart orientation. On the left, I knit it again with the chart rotated (i.e. I swapped rows for stitches and knit it from bottom to top of the design instead of from side to side as I had it charted originally). Look how much shorter and fatter the little dragons turned out! :-) No longer a bookmark…maybe a patch?
