9/26/14 I had entered my body measurements earlier. Today I measured my swatch and entered the measurements into the website. I then used the recipe to design my sweater. Picked the following design choices:
Average fit
Length: medium-hip length
Sleeves: full-length
Neck style: v-neck
Neck depth: 8” below shoulders
Finishing:
. Hem edging and height: folded hem, 2”
. Sleeve edging and height: folded hem, 1 1/2”
. Button band allowance: 2”
. Button band edging and height: rosette stitch, 2”
(I noticed when entering the measurements for my swatch it ask for row “length”. To me this means measuring from left to right, but after mulling it over I decided it means measuring from top to bottom, assuming there is a top, bottom, left and right to the swatch. * I would have called this “width”. Maybe it’s just me.)
I named the cardigan St. John Cardigan because I bought the yarn at our school’s auction two years ago.
10/12 Aarrgh! When I got the the neck shaping I realized I made a mistake way back at the armhole shaping. The pattern says “decrease 1 stitch at each end of every RS row 8 times.” It is the each end that I missed, so I have an extra 8 stitches. I know I can missed this kind of instruction so I thought I was being really careful but clearly I was not. I should also always count remaining stitches every time there is a bind off, increase, etc. I would save myself a lot of work.
10/16 Finished back.
10/19 Finished right front.
11/10 Finished first sleeve.
11/21 Finished second sleeve.
12/2 Finished band. Yesterday I was halfway done binding off the band when I discovered a mistake in my Rosette stitch. The thought I could live with it but woke up this morning and knew I couldn’t. Ripped back four rows, which was very hard because the yarn is fuzzy so the stitches were sticking. I corrected the mistake and finished today. Now to sew the hem, weave in ends, and block.
