Notes

The other day I asked Ryan if there was anything I could knit him for the winter. Since he’s originally from Southern California and used to 70 degree Decembers, I figured he might want some woolly goodness to help him adjust. His response? “A blank would be really great, I love blankets and I don’t have enough.” headdesk The foolish things we do for love… This blanket is based off the Golden Ratio rectangle (Ryan is a math-loving nerd-o.)

It’s basically comprised of garter stitch squares, each one pick up and knit onto the squares before it (the center is a rectangle since I can’t make infinitely small squares… yet.)

It was nice when the squares were small, but the one I’m working on now is over 2 feet and the next one will be 4 feet. The blanket will end up roughly 4’ x 6’ (if my math is anywhere near correct.)

Ryan specifically asked for shades of gray and the only yarn line I could find that had 4 shades of black/gray was Knit Picks Swish Bulky. I’m not complaining, I love this yarn, it’s so soft and squooshy.

When the blanket is done I will surface crochet the spiral on in red. If you want to have some idea of what this will look like and can’t picture it here is the wiki article on the golden ratio spiral.

ETA: After I finished the knitting I did a 3-stitch applied I-cord to finish it off. I showed it to Ryan and he decided that he wanted the blanket right away and didn’t want the spiral added after all.

The math to make this is pretty easy, but I’d be happy to write it up if anyone wants it.
