Notes

I rated this pattern low because the yardage estimates are way off. I had more than enough yardage according to the pattern and ended up having to buy another ball of each color.

The estimate for color A is off by about 40 yards. I ended up needing about 450 yards to knit the shawl as written. The estimate for color B is off by much more--about 90 yards. I ended up needing about 550 yards to complete the shawl.

I actually really love the pattern, but if I had know what sort of financial investment it would be from the outset I would have rethought my yarn choices.

As it was, once I realized I was going to run out of the Wollmeise I knew I wouldn’t be able to get more. I was able to find the O’Keefe in a very similar color. I used the two alternating every other “B” stripe in the “wings.”

Looking at the shawl closely you can tell that the lighter color goes in stripes down the wings but I like it much better than if I had just abruptly changed to the lighter color. (Of course that meant ripping out half a wing because I didn’t realize I was going to run out until I got most of the way done with the first wing.)

The pattern is very well written, just be sure you have lots of extra yardage on hand or are using a yarn that you can easily get more of if you run out.
