Notes

My mother’s friend Nancy is turning 60 this year, so my mother commissioned me to knit her a wimple.

While my mom visited over Christmas, she created this yarn at Yarnia. It’s one strand plum-colored alpaca, one strand lilac rayon, and one strand pinkish-purple wool-nylon blend. (Upon washing this blend, the alpaca bled dye quite a bit, I’ve rinsed it several times and hopefully it won’t bleed any more.)

My mom also picked this pattern after I gave her access to the Ravelry pattern search. The pattern is very simple to knit, the majority of the rounds are plain non-lace rounds. It probably only took me about 7 hours to complete, I just didn’t work on it very frequently or monogamously.

I don’t think the pattern and yarn are particularly well matched. The much-lighter rayon leads to a flecked tweed look that overpowers the lace pattern. I expressed these concerns to my mom before I started knitting for her, but she insisted it would be fine and Nancy would like it just the way it was…

Having the lace I was knitting completely obscured by the yarn made this not very fun to knit, which is most of the reason why it took me so long to finish.
