Going to try and do this in time for Lena’s birthday on June 1st. Bit of a rush job, especially given that I haven’t done frost flowers before; love a challenge!
May 21: Completed cast on and 18 set-up rows.
May 26: Completed 8 repeats Chart A, stupidly started Chart B at 0 instead of row 5! Ripped back. Would have liked instruction on Chart B, like highlighting row 5.
May 31: Completed rows 5-31 of chart B; painstaking work! Going to try and speed up on next set (B, rows 0-27). Clearly won’t make tomorrow’s deadline, might manage for weekend?
June 4: Finished rows 0-27 of chart B, confused by transition to chart C - RS row to RS row?
June 5: Re-read instructions - missed the “insert a purl row” between B & C. Duh.
June 9: Completed 30 rows of Chart C. Added clear size 6 beads with size 12 (1mm) crochet hook in place of nupps and between yarn overs. Getting nervous about amount of yarn left. Think I’ll stop two rows early.
June 10: Fuck. Total yardage disaster. Instead of completing rows 35 & 36, stopped at row 34. Ran out of yarn 42 sts before finishing the bind off. Had a small hissy fit. Am going to pick back 2 rows and bind off knit-wise after row 33 with a large glass of wine tonight.
June 11: Bound off, sewn in and blocked! Ready for gift delivery on Tuesday.
- 2 reps 4x8 rows of chart A (64 rows = 177 sts)
- Chart B - rows 5-31, then 0-27 (53 rows)
- One purl row
- Chart C - rows 1-33
- K2 (K2tog, K1) bind-off
- 152 rows total
- almost no yarn left when done
AUDIOBOOKS: Listened to Georgette Heyer’s “Frederica” (okay) and 3 of Dorothy Gilman’s “Mrs. Pollifax” novels (excellent) while working on this shawl. Recommend Pollifax for knitting!
