Notes

This is the first lace shawl I wanted to knit, although not the first one I actually knit. It is a great pattern and the lace repeat is very easy. Highly recommended, especially as a first lace project.

I’ll admit to some confusion regarding the cast on, but Clark’s book “Designing Lace Triangles” provided some other options that made more sense. (Crocheting with waste yarn and picking up the stitches didn’t work for me; starting with a few 2-stitch rows of garter stitch in waste yarn did.)

I cast on 2/8/2008 while at a retreat with some friends and was able to zip right through it. End of first day: 50 rows. End of second day: 80 rows. End of third day: 99 rows. 100 rows is where you start on the edging per the pattern.

However, I decided it wasn’t big enough for me, even though my yarn and needles are bigger than the pattern. I wanted a generous shawl and so ended up adding 4 more repeats than the pattern called for, a total of 12 repeats. I’m glad I had extra yarn because I ended up using almost all of it!

After the delightful quickness at the beginning of the project, the later rows feel very long. But the end result is so worth it!
