too cute not to make. using leftover knit picks yarn from previously felted bag projects.

planning to mod the eyes a little.

2/21: decided on half eyes and brows to make it look more like the baby owl in my kids’ ‘baby animals’ book.
2/22: changed the beak from triangular to diamond shaped to fit with the new shaped eyes.
also added one more ch to the base of the feet to end up with a total of four curves to the feet instead of three. with the eyebrows the feet just needed to be bigger to balance it all out. skipped ears. the eyebrows are kinda ears, too. lol.

stuffed with dry baby lima beans cause i like beanbags. just do.

mods for the eyes(make 2):

ch 2.
3 sc into 2nd ch. ch 1 & turn piece for next row.
2 sc into each st(6 sts). ch 1 & turn.
2sc in 1st st, 1 sc in next(9sts). ch 1 & turn.
2sc in 1st st, 1 sc in next 2 sts(12 sts). ch 1.
cut yarn and weave in end.

change to new color for edging. starting at the center of the flat edge of the half circle, sc across half of the flat edge and around the outer arc of the half circle. cut yarn leaving tail for attaching to owl.

1 trc in 3rd ch from hook.
dc in next 2 sts.
half dc in next 3 sts.
sc in next 2 sts.
slip st in next 2 sts.
cut yarn, leaving tail for attaching to owl.

(i sewed the thinner end of the eyebrows closest to the beak. they sort of curl all on their own because of the decreasing size of the sts.)
