This flat tapestry crochet design was adapted from an ancient Roman mosaic found in a villa at Pompeii. You can see the original mosaic here. I’ve been in love with Rome for a long time (I majored in Classics in college) and got to visit Pompeii myself back in 2007. It was an amazing trip!

This mini basket is the perfect size to keep jewelry, small trinkets, or even crochet notions! (My 2-year-old son went for Lego figures.) Cistella is Latin for “small box or basket”. The shape reminds me of a little box I kept my foreign coins in when I was a kid.
