When looking for a name for this pattern I knew I wanted it to be related with sheep, but my inspiration wasn´t working with me. I share my fiber study with my mum, a painter, crocheter and jack of all trades and I asked her for a name related with sheep. She suggested Bolingua.

Enbata is the basque word for sea storm. While I was knitting it one of my students said that it resembled something marine, like seaweeds and bubbles. We thought about a name and after a brief brainstorming Esti came with the name, Enbata. It sounds strong, bold, but the shawl still has a delicate feel about it.

The first iteration of this fair isle socks was knitted for my partner in the Swapetines 2016 sock exchange. When I finished them I decided to knit another pair and write down the pattern and Itsaertz (Seashore) are the finished and a little altered socks.

The shawl is named after its first recipient, my brother Josu. He is a very creative guy, a very talented photographer, and I didn’t want a simple scarf so I gathered a lot of aran yarn for a huge shawl and this is the result.
