Knitting: Beanie, Toque
This easy lace beanie was designed for beginner lace classes at Castle Handmade, Bowral. It is made in DK 8ply yarn and knitted flat and then sewn up, or it can be knit in the round. It features two lace designs, Gulls Wings and Cloverleaf Eyelet Cable.
Knitting: Scarf
This laceweight scarf came about after I fell in love with some of Hedgehog Fibres’ Potluck yarns. It is very easy to fall for colourful variegated yarns in the skein, but as a lace knitter it is harder to know what to do with them! I set myself a challenge to create something that would do justice to the amazing yarn and also keep me amused as...
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
Clear Shining is a lace shawl which includes Estonian gathered stitches and nupps. All the twists and turns in the lace echoed the difficulties and sleepless nights of the past few years for me. The shawl was called The Somnambulist all through the design process, and went through several versions before I was happy with it. But then when I saw...
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
Estonian Trellis is a wedge-shaped shawl, knit all in one piece, incorporating a number of different lace patterns. It was made as an experiment to use traditional lace designs with a more contemporary shawl shape and I hope you like it as much as I do.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
Field of Flowers is a rectangular shawl, knit all in one piece, incorporating traditional lace patterns of leaves and dayflowers.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
This shawl is a laceweight triangular shawl, with an Estonian style edging and stitches. It has alternate panels of Arrowhead lace and my favourite Estonian 3 gathered stitch, set off by garter ridges between them. I made mine in a laceweight single yarn and added silk mohair to the edging and garter ridges for extra misty luxury.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
Here’s another shawl with a Norfolk name. Titamatorta – a see saw. It’s all about balance, and this triangular shawl balances lace diamonds with stocking stitch ones, and gives me an excuse to play with more words from my childhood.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
This triangular shawl evolved from an example in Sequence Knitting by Cecelia Campochiaro. The shawl is worked the point up and has a seed stitch edging and top border to frame the texture of the sequence.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
Hodmedod is the Norfolk word for Hedgehog and is a bit of a thingumy sort of a word. And this is a bit of a thingumy really – too small to be called a shawl, but very cosy to tie around your neck for a bit of warmth. It’s a riff on the Estonian 3-gathered stitch and uses just one skein of fingering yarn – in this case a Hedgehog Fibres skinny s...
Knitting: Beret, Tam
This tam is called The Pink ‘Un only because it is so pink. (The Pink ‘Un was the football supplement published with the Eastern Evening News which dealt mainly with Norwich City Football Club and was printed on pink paper. It still exists as a website).
Knitting: Beret, Tam
This tam was the first one that I designed, inspired by a trip to Scotland in 2018 and the colours of the Highlands as we drove across the country.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
I think everyone needs a hug right now, and this is a big shawl to give you a big hug whenever you need it.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
This shawl was knitted as a personal piece for family, and so this pattern is pulled together from my notes and photos taken over the two years that I worked on it off and on.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
I created this shawl after producing several mini-shawls for a class I taught in beading. The shawl is a crescent which grows from a tab start at the centre top. The body of the shawl is stocking stitch with a band of seed stitch across the top edge and then there is a large section of beaded coral lace which flows into a more open lace border.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
An updated version of the pattern has been released to include a slightly larger size.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
The shawl is named for my aunt, who requested a shawl in “Lipstick Pink”. The shawl I knitted for her gave me a very close run of yarn chicken, so I’ve refined the pattern and made it slightly smaller, so that the same doesn’t happen to you.
Knitting: Cowl
This gorgeous snuggly cowl is my second after reading a copy of Cecelia Campochiaro’s beautiful book on Sequence Knitting. The cowl uses the sequence shown on page 257 and uses two skeins of super chunky yarn. It is knitted outwards from a moebius cast on in one continuous row. A variegated yarn will look fabulous with the rich texture of this ...
Knitting: Cowl
This lovely textured cowl was cast on very shortly after I first saw a copy of Cecelia Campochiaro’s beautiful book on Sequence Knitting. The cowl uses a single skein of 10ply yarn and produces a fantastic spiralling texture that showcases a variegated yarn just beautifully.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
Rose Meadow is a deceptively simple crescent shaped shawl, knitted from the centre top down to the border in one piece. The lace motifs flow between small leaf designs and fleurette, and as my yarn was named Rose Wine, this shawl has become a Rose Meadow.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
This crescent shawl is named after Broadford in the Isle of Skye and the fabulous varieties of seaweed that were on the beach there. The lace pattern in the border is developed from the Print ‘o the Wave lace in Heirloom Knitting by Sharon Miller which is my favourite book for Shetland knitting.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
The Local is a crescent shawl in fingering weight yarn. I used Blackwattle Waratah 4ply yarn from One Tree Hill Alpacas in Murrumbateman, New South Wales, Australia. This yarn was processed in Orange at Adagio Mill and I bought it from Skein Sisters in Sydney. So, in a world where more and more knitting is international and online, this shawl h...
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
This triangular Shetland Lace shawl is knitted all in one piece and incorporates a garter stitch centre, borders of rose trellis and tree motifs and is finished with simple lace edgings.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
This large crescent shawl is knitted in a silk lace yarn and uses the old vine lace motif. It is knitted from the centre top down to the border in one continuous piece. The shawl is knitted on relatively large needles and blocked to reveal the open nature of the lace.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
This is simple lace knitting with an epic result. This semi circular shawl was inspired by the gradient yarn from Green Tea Yarns it is knitted with. It is my first gradient and my first half pi shawl and I think the two were made for each other. Radiating petals grow into a design that is simply floriferous!
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
There is a thread in my group as a ’Smoked Pearls Endless KAL’ for knitters of this shawl.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
This crescent shaped shawl is knitted in one piece from the centre top down and has a knitted on border. The main body of the shawl uses a rosebud mesh, while there are more bunches of roses on the outer edge and a string of roses in the border lace. Astrid ‘helped’ a lot, so this shawl is named for her.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
This elegant shawl was designed to showcase the beautiful Piibelehekiri lehel or Lily on a Leaf pattern found in the online exhibition of Estonian Lace held at the Lacis Museum. In my shawl it is surrounded by edges of roundels and a border at either end which are both inspired by and adapted from Nancy Bush’s Knitted Lace of Estonia.
Knitting: Scarf
This light scarf was designed for Adagio Mills 4ply yarn in Weathered Wood. It is knitted in two identical halves which are grafted together at the centre. The scarf includes the Estonian features of an edge pattern cast on with a double strand of yarn, while the main body of the scarf is the Half Leaf Pattern or Poollehekiri from Nancy Bush’s ...
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap, Scarf
This luxurious rectangular wrap is based on a simple k2, p2 rib, with ribbed cables used to create a woven texture. The wrap is fully reversable with no right side. Knitted in baby alpaca laceweight it is light and warm, and can be worn as a wrap or a scarf.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
This pattern for a shawl/scarf/wrap takes a texured zig-zag lattice stitch and combines it with a rich single ply yarn to create a lusciously warm piece with fabulous drape.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
Blue Moon is a crescent shaped shawl on a garter stitch ground, based on a bead pattern and with a knitted on Vandyke lace edging. Because of the garter stitch ground and the nature of the lace pattern the shawl has no right or wrong side.
Knitting: Cowl
A one skein cowl knitted in the round using a diagonal rib. It has a great drape when worn and is fabulous for showcasing variegated yarns.
Knitting: Throw
This throw takes a dayflower lace motif knit large into an allover pattern and uses a handspun yarn for gentle variations of colour and texture. With different yarn it could be anything from a baby blanket to a shawl …
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
Night Garden shawl is a semi-circular shawl knitted from the centre top outwards, with three segments of leaf lattice pattern and a knitted on oak leaf border.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
This shawl was designed for 4 skeins of undyed, handspun yarn from a wether named Joe at Moseley Park in South Australia. Joe had many colours in his fleece, so the simple herringbone pattern uses the variations of shade to put ever changing rhythms into the design. The result is a fairly solid shawl, handy for fetching the veggies on a cold wi...
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
This was my first shawl, knitted in the round with 4 segments of Van Dyke and Rib, and a border of Horseshoes.
