What is more iconic for Valentine’s Day than Roses and Chocolates? For my 2023 Valentines Day themed design I chose to go with this pretty red, pink and brown color scheme for a large triangular crochet shawl. The main shawl yarn color is a very wearable beige, and the pretty second section is the colors of roses and chocolates plus the main ya...

If you know my crochet patterns, you know that I love to design patterns that are simple, relaxing and typically require only one or two skeins of yarn. For most of my patterns you can dive into your yarn stash for the yarn, and especially for my one skein fingering weight designs.

In the Texas Hill Country where I live there is this gutsy little native Texas wildflower, the Rock Daisy, that grows up through piles of rocks, or up through cracks in the exposed limestone. Imagine if we could all be this fearless and persistent!
Crochet: Coaster
When I am designing, I crochet a lot of mini scarves and shawls while figuring out ideas and stitch patterns. Recently, I crocheted a mini shawl as part of my design process and it dawned on me that it would make a great coaster. So, I used a very easy stitch pattern and wrote the pattern so you could use any yarn weight.
Crochet: Shawl / Wrap
I try avoid naming my patterns according to the yarn colors I use, but I made an exception for this shawl. I used Knit Picks Twill Fingering in the colors Sea Salt Heather and Rose Water Heather. I kept thinking Sea Salt and Roses, that sounds really pretty and kind of beachy with a romantic vibe. So that’s how this name came to be!

Sometimes we read long novels and we have a good deal of time to ponder how the story will end. Sometimes the ending is predictable and other times it is a surprise. At other times, we read short stories that have a quick ending for a little instant gratification.

During trying times it is important to maintain a sense of calm. For us crocheters and knitters we pick up yarn and hooks or needles to unwind and relax. The repetition of the stitch patterns becomes meditative as we crochet or knit through the rows while we count and concentrate. This kind of mindfulness clears the mind and brings on a sense o...
