Crochet: Shawl / Wrap
The shawl may be worked to any desired size. The choice of yarn and hook size are up to you. I have swatched with up to a worsted weight and a “J” hook with good results. The project shown was made using Red Heart “It’s a Wrap” (625 yards) with an “E” 3.25mm hook. I used almost all of the yarn to achieve the size shown. The leaves are surrounde...
Crochet: Scarf
I fell in love with a baby blanket made with a similar stitch. I didn’t like the way it was made, so I improvised a way to get the same look, but with different stitches. After playing around with it for a bit, I decided to see if I could come up with an asymmetrical scarf/shawl from the pattern. This is what I came up with.
Crochet: Shawl / Wrap
Coastal Bay is a semi-circular shawl that be adjusted to any size. Just make more repeats of one of the sections or both! It provides maximum coverage around the shoulders and drapes nicely down the back.
Knitting: Afghan block
This pattern came from a need to keep my hands and mind busy. There are many people in our communities that could use a little bit of love, and since we can’t just go and give everyone around us a great big hug, I thought it might be nice to come up with a pattern that could make multiple items.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap, Throw
Organized Chaos is a round, lacy shawl or blanket. It can be worked in any combination of needle and yarn weight. Mine is in lace weight with a size 3 needle for a small table cloth. Larger needle and yarn weight will make a nice blanket. You can decide what combination you want/need to add a bit of fun in your life.

Big Top is a study in garter stitch and short rows. It is worked side to side and features a nice scalloped edge when finished. I used bright colors and alternated frequently to achieve the “big top” look of a circus tent. It can easily be done with muted colors, alternating variegates with a high contrast, or even tonal colors for a more muted...
Crochet: Shawl / Wrap
A super quick and easy shawl that makes up for a thoughtful gift. One skein and a hook makes for a wonderfully mobile project. Use slip stitches to create a window pane effect on this cute drawstring bag.
Knitting: Scarf, Shawl / Wrap
This started out as a challenge to see what I could come up with when handed this beautiful skein of copper colored yarn with a metallic touch added in. I also received a beautiful skein of fruity colored yarn from the same dyer that just went so well with the copper that I had to figure out a way to incorporate it into the design.
Crochet: Shawl / Wrap
My daughter asked me to come up with a shawl that she could wrap around her shoulders when she was playing dress-up, but would also be warm when she wanted to wrap up on the couch and watch TV. It had to be pretty, warm, and zig-zaggy. She wanted something “fit for a princess” and even sketched it out for me.

Homespun Beauty is a combination of three different stitch patterns used in progression. It goes from a open and closed central section and moves into a large open circle motif. Yewll is a top down crescent that was inspired by the Doctor Yewll character in Defiance. Her uniform has some interesting stitching which caught my eye and inspired the main body pattern. The edging was inspired by the plants she raises for medicinal use in the clinic. She is a strong character so I used bold, strong colors for the prototype. ...

With Spring breezes on the mind and the buds getting ready on the trees, it is still too cool to go without some kind of warmth while perusing the yard or taking young ones to the park. Hexy is a half circle shawl that has plenty of open work to keep the shawl from getting too warm, but solid enough to provide warmth. It can be scrunched up ar...

The theme for this MKAL is COLOR! After all the gray of this winter, I wanted to come up with something that would soothe the soul, but also provide a pop of color in an otherwise gray month! I designed this project to go with multiple weights of yarn and needle combinations that would still yield a wearable finished accessory. I wanted somethi...
Crochet: Shawl / Wrap
I was asked to design a special shawl by a friend of mine. I used a couple of doilies as inspiration and came up with this design. I used less than two skeins of Caron Simply Soft and a size J/6mm hook to make a nice drapey fabric that would still provide warmth. It would make a wonderful last-minute gift or prayer shawl.
Crochet: Beanie, Toque
I was making some hats for charity when my daughter asked if she could have one of these hats. I decided to go ahead and write up the pattern as I was making them. They have quite a bit of stretch and will fit my 5 year-old and me.

The Cowldana isn’t a regular cowl or bandana. It is a combination of both. I wanted something that would sit nicely in the gap at the top of my coat, but wouldn’t choke me to death. I also wanted to add a bit of patterning without going for anything too flashy. I decided a nice little flash of color in stripes that change direction at the front...

Nothing says ‘Winter’ like a warm, cozy shawl, but there’s no reason it needs to be plain. The points in the design are reminiscent of the petals of a flower and the greater than a semi-circle shape lends itself well to wrapping, making it a great way to brighten up your winter wardrobe!

With fall on the horizon, I thought it might be nice to have a lighter weight shawl to help cover up when the chill hits the air. One day I decided to see if I could come up with a way to make a slope with an even edge. Most of the slopes I’ve seen have a bit of a jog in them, but I wanted one as smooth as I could get it. After playing around for a bit, I came up with a cross between Tunisian and regular crochet. Even if you’ve never done Tunisian, you can do this. I have...

I have always loved the look of Stephen West’s knitting designs. I wanted to take his ideas and translate them into crochet. I tried to keep it as close as possible to the original knit version, but...
