Crochet: Cowl
Beautiful, soft, warm and sparkly, the Nesting Cowl is made with our Silk Shimmer and this is what makes this simple project special. This cowl is worked from the bottom up in a spiral, with a full twist, and begins and ends with a double crochet stitch.
Knitting: Cowl
Our designer, Fran, loves a cowl that fits snugly over her head and around her neck. She also wants just the right amount of flair at the shoulders. What if this perfect little cowl could be made from just one skein of our luxurious Cashmere Cloud? This is THAT cowl and best of all, it is easy enough to be your first lace project.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
Nothing says indulgence more than a beautiful, flowing scarf. Our Secret Garden Shawl was inspired by our gardener friends and the beautiful gardens in this area. Knit it with two of our hand dyed semi-solid Rosario Sport yarns or a combination including a Medley. What is more fun than color, pattern and texture?
Crochet: Ornamental Flower
One of the special parts of living on Fidalgo Island is the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival each Spring. Tulips are in the fields, in our gardens, in the grocery store, in shop windows and everywhere we look. Thousands of people travel to our area to view the stunning fields and taste the freshness of Spring. Our tulips are a tribute to the season...
Knitting: Cowl
Designed for and debuted at the 2022 Puget Sound Local Yarn Shop Tour, this cozy cowl is knit with our hand dyed Merino DK yarns. The design of this cowl creates window-like panes with the radiant color moving in an effortless landscape. It is like looking into a colorful wonderland!
Knitting: Beanie, Toque
When the fog and mist surround our waterfront community, I begin searching for my favorite winter cap to keep me feeling warm and cozy. If you are like me, some days it needs to be made of a light wool and other days the thicker and warmer the better.
Knitting: Scarf
This scarf was inspired by our friends who are new to knitting but would like to try a simple lace project. This pattern is an eight row repeat and is easy enough to avoid frustration but with just the right amount of challenge and appeal to feed developing passions.
Crochet: Scarf
Walking along our shorelines, Janet frequently stops, inspired by driftwood, small shells or bright sparkly bits of flotsam. This scarf is as simple as a walk along the beach. It can be a long wandering walk, a modest stroll along the shore or a quick brisk morning change of pace.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
Wrap this cozy shawl around you as you walk on the beaches that grace the Puget Sound region. The Rosario Beach Shawl features two of Fran’s favorite stitches: the Woven Stitch is a beautiful stitch that is a knitting basic. It creates a playful colored canvas for our Medley Sport yarn. The second, a simple lace stitch, is Crest of the Wave. It...
Knitting: Cowl
This pattern was designed to celebrate our shop’s 5th World Wide Knit in Public Day. Each year we offer an event and also a complimentary pattern during the event.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
Fran designed this shawl to celebrate our shop’s 5th Anniversary in September 2020. The stitch pattern is simple and a bit hypnotic. The shape is interesting and easily worn. The fabric is a perfect canvas to show off the changing colors of our Rosario Sport. The knit is impossible to put down as the colors dance off your needles.
Knitting: Poncho, Cowl
Fidalgo Island, home to Fidalgo Artisan Yarn & Clothing, is a wonderful mix of casual and artistic coming together to create a unique small-town community. Our Island Time Cowl & Cozy are deceivingly simple yet interesting in affect. This is one of the few times you will get to drop stitches… on purpose!
Knitting: Cowl
World Wide Knit in Public Day was started in 2005 by Danielle Landes. In 2011, Astrid Salling stepped in as event organizer. It began as a way for knitters to come together and enjoy each other’s company. Knitting is such a solitary act that it’s easy to knit alone somewhere and sink into your work without thinking about all the other knitters ...
Knitting: Cowl
‘It’s a Swirl!’ is a playful yet elegantly wearable introduction to lace knitting and beading, simple enough for intermediate beginners yet engaging enough for more advanced knitters. Swirl subtly with matching matte beads, or swirl dramatically with contrasting sparkly beads.
Knitting: Pullover
When the sum is greater than its (simple, elegant, lacey) parts, lovely things happen. Everyday Fancy is the perfect layering piece and a wonderful introduction to several different lace patterns. Summery and versatile in crisp linen in deep, rich jewel tones or neutral earthy shades, beautiful thrown on over a camisole and jeans, a turtleneck,...
Knitting: Poncho
Ganseys or Guernseys are the traditional hand-knitted pullovers worn by the fishermen of the British Isles. The patterns themselves are easy enough to knit, consisting of nothing more complicated than knits, purls, and cable stitches -- but there is endless beauty and visual complexity in the infinite ways these stitches can be worked in combin...
Crochet: Throw
The Blossom Cozy is crocheted in a spiral from the center out to the scalloped edge. This sweet little blanket begins with a circle before transitioning into eight gentle petals. It is complicated enough to keep your mind meditatively engaged, yet simple enough to be worked while socializing. This cozy was designed especially for our Radiant DK...
Knitting: Cowl
The Shoreline Cowl begins with a simple lace border of “waves” washing onto the beach. Garter stitch “beach logs” roll back and forth in the surf with bubbles of “seafoam” playing between the logs. Made from our Rustic Silk, this cowl can be worn a variety of ways and is a stylish and beautiful tribute to our beloved northern Puget Sound island.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
The Quatrefoil Wrap is an elegant piece that combines both wrap and vest elements, making it imminently wearable for a wide variety of occasions. The pattern features two simple lace patterns. Knit up in a beautiful silk blend, it can dress up a pair of jeans or fit in comfortably at a gala dinner. This is a lovely knit for the adventurous begi...
Knitting: Vest
Every traveler needs the perfect vest to add a bit of warmth as the seasons change. It is also the ideal project to take along when you are on the road. It is fairly “mindless” allowing you to carry on conversations and see the sights along the way if you are lucky enough to be a knitting passenger!
Knitting: Cowl
A simple welted pattern gets dressed up in a gorgeous silk-blend yarn, making for an elegant accessory.
Knitting: Scarf
The linen stitch (one of our favorites!) creates a beautiful fabric, and provides a lovely way to play with different color and fiber combinations.
Knitting: Scarf
Sometimes you just want a little bling but nothing too heavy. A few beads on the edge of this feathery light scarf is just right for any season. The side to side construction and simple stitch pattern makes this a fun and easy project.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
Our Northwest Wrap reflects a classic elegance that we love. This is a simple knit -- mostly stockinette stitch with shaping around the neck and seaming at the back and arm -- but wonderfully wearable and elegant. The crocheted edging around the front opening and neck provides a nice clean finish and prevents rolling along the edge of the stock...
Knitting: Coat / Jacket
What we love about this jacket, which is really quite a simple knit, is the way that it becomes a canvas for playing with different colors. It can be done in everything from an elegant gradient wash of color to a bright and cheerful color mash-up to a springtime or autumnal impressionistic masterpiece. The linen stitch works to integrate the co...
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
The Fidalgo Evenings Shawl is a perfect accessory -- light and airy, yet warm enough to throw around your neck or shoulders as the cool of the evening settles in.
Knitting: Scarf, Beanie, Toque
The Easy Welted Hat is a very good looking and a good first project for beginners. It is knit in the round from the bottom to the top with no shaping. To close the top, holes are created with yarn overs into which i-cord is threaded. To make the hat smaller or to work with larger yarn, cast on fewer stitches in multiples of 8.
