This shawl is inspired by the streets of my hometown’s downtown. The streets are all cobblestone and the textures that it creates have always made me feel curious and at the same time happy. I enjoy looking for little details in unexpected places and with this shawl I wanted to recreate some of those details.

I felt the name of this pattern had to reflect the amazing texture that appears as you start knitting the socks so I chose the word “billowy” which means appearing large and soft or filled with air.

When I sat down to start working on this collaboration with Kate from Mcmullin Fiber Co. I was torn between what to design, usually when I’m procrastinating because I don’t know which way to go with one of my projects I doodle… I doodle a lot. During high school I used to have tons of notebooks full of doodles, it helps me focus.
