Knitting: Mid-calf Socks
Socks so cute you’ll want to eat them up. These mid-calf socks have an afterthought heel, which makes it easy to keep the pattern going. The Helm of Awe is an Icelandic sigil to induce fear in your enemies and to protect against abuses of power. The striking design is at least visually commanding, and is a pleasure to knit and wear.
Knitting: Cape
The stranded colourwork in this cape is based on an Icelandic magical stave for disguise; in Icelandic, it is called Hulinhjalmur. The spell itself is a bit grisly, but once done, it was supposed to prevent your enemies from seeing you. The stave is beautiful on its own and lends itself well to intarsia knitting.
Knitting: Pullover
The stranded colourwork in this sweater is based on an old Icelandic spell for bewitching a horse to fly. The original spell was a bit gruesome, but a reworking of the spell sigil makes for a mesmerizing yoke design. Perhaps you’ll feel a bit of air under your feet while wearing this sweater.

Knitting: Cowl, Mittens

I enjoyed reading Nancy Drew mysteries when I was a kid. Nancy Drew was not only a plucky and talented detective, she also sported some smart outfits. One of my favorite movies is the Wizard of Oz. As this piece grew, a few elements began to emerge that reminded me of the classic movie: the yellow brick road echoed by the textured rib pattern, the classic white and blue of Dorothy’s dress, not to mention a few arrows pointing out the way to go.

Knitting: Cardigan
For me, a great grandpa sweater must be warm and woolly, have a shawl collar and pockets, and have a bit of an oversized fit. This pattern is my interpretation of the gramps genre, and I hope you’ll feel as cozy in it as I do.

With a fit that leaves room for long-sleeved tops underneath, i...

Crochet: Throw
There’s something about ’60s wallpaper; maybe it’s the movement, maybe the colours, but either way, it inspires and led to the creation of this pattern. The design uses basic stitches (sc, dc, tr, and dtr) and is at the beginner level. I crocheted this with medium weight yarn in three colours (yarn A: 400g; yarn B: 300g; and yarn C: 400g).
