Knitting: Beanie, Toque, Cloche Hat
This is an absolute beginner hat pattern using garter stitch and knit flat. The garter is used sideways, like a ribbing, and the finished length is sewn together along the top and bottom edges and then along one side to complete the hat. This hat was developed with no top shaping to allow it to form little “ears”.
Knitting: Beanie, Toque
I developed a set of beginner’s patterns for a knitting class I am teaching at a local high school. The hats were specifically requested for a local children’s cancer charity and the four hats progress from a type comfortable for a complete beginning knitter through a hat for a more experienced and adventurous beginner. The patterns all include...

Knitting: Hats - Other
A classic baby hat with I-cord stem and appliqué leaf. Stone fruits, pomme fruits, and citrus all have this type of leaf, so mix it up with the colors and you’ve got grapefruits, oranges, lemons, limes, apples, quince, pears, plums, nectarines, peaches… let your imagination go wild!
Crochet: Market bag (slouchy)
My favorite shopping bag ever was a string bag I bought in Edinburgh, Scotland, that had only one wide handle to sling over your shoulder. The soft weave sit comfortably on the shoulder without gouging, even with a full load from Safeway (yes, they have Safeway in Scotland).
Knitting: Beanie, Toque
A very challenging pattern for the adventurous lace knitter. This pattern puts the classic diamond lace pattern in the round; the start of the rounds changes over time! This pattern does not scale easily, either in width or length, so do the swatch and check the numbers first to save a headache later.
Knitting: Beanie, Toque
I made this pattern for that fleeting month after a baby is born when the majority of baby hats are simply too big. This sweet hat makes a nice alternative to the hospital stocking caps.
Knitting: Ankle Sock
This pattern was adapted from “Two-needle socks” in Debbie Bliss, Baby Knits for Beginners. I am aware of copyright, and the adaptation to circular knitting qualifies this as a new pattern.
