Maybe because the water is cold and your features will freeze that way. Instructions are given for both toe-up and top-down construction .

I saw a picture of this stitch pattern in a magazine and immediately fell in love. I reverse engineered it and made this lovely pair of socks. I’ve included instructions for both toe-up and top-down knitting with a short-row heel. If the short-row heel isn’t your thing, substitute your heel of choice. Happy Knitting!
