Knitting: Mid-calf Socks
Inspired by the fashion and attention to details of the first decade of the Twentieth Century.
Knitting: Costume
Summertime is playtime. And what more traditional game can you knit for than Cowboys and Indians? Here is a pattern for a toy gun holster (with belt, if needed), and brightly colored Indian headbands. These knit up very fast, so your little good guys and bad guys can get to playing quickly.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
This heirloom piece starts in the center with Emily Ocker’s Cast on, and is worked outward to the edges circularly. The color changed is achieved with The Unique Sheep’s Gradiance Colorway.
Knitting: Fingerless Gloves
Requires only a partial skein of The Unique Sheep Sushi Sock in Silver for edging and I-cord.
Knitting: Mid-calf Socks
Yarn and colorway names are very inspirational to me. When I can match a yarn and color to a person, the design often takes care of itself. I just knit it and write it for you. This was one of those cases. When I looked up images of Tuscany, one of the most well-known that I found was of the Leaning Tower of Pisa. While I hope these socks don...
Knitting: Knee-highs
These are a fun knit with a simple knit and purl pattern up the leg. Easy to make as long or as short as you want them. A fold-over picot point cuff makes an easy place to put a bit of elastic if you want long socks that won’t slide down.
Knitting: Mid-calf Socks
This yarn in this color really could not have been made into anything except something reminiscent of a tropical rainforest. Tall trees with branches that intertwine near the top represented by cables makes for a nice sock for men.
Knitting: Mid-calf Socks
The reversible double knit cuff makes me think of the changing leaves, and the ivy reminds me of the resilience of the plants through the Fall and Winter cold as they wait for the warmth of Spring to revive them.
Knitting: Mid-calf Socks
“Very fair was her face, and her long hair was like a river of gold. Slender and tall she was in her white robe girt with silver; but strong she seemed and stern as steel, a daughter of kings. Thus Aragorn for the first time in the full light of day beheld Eowyn, Lady of Rohan, and thought her fair, fair and cold, like a morning of pale spring ...
Knitting: Mid-calf Socks
The brave Captain of Gondor who was of the highest quality (as proclaimed by Samwise the gardener) was a “grave young man”. He did not desire to be a warrior, but because it was necessary, he did it well. He was rewarded for his whole-hearted service by being made the Prince of Ithilien and receiving the hand of Eowyn, Lady of Rohan, in marriage.
Knitting: Washcloth / Dishcloth
A quick fun cloth to knit up. A textured pattern keeps it interesting, but not stressful.
Knitting: Skirt
This is a sexy straight skirt with revealing fishnet lace panels down the side of each leg. A slit in the back allows ease of movement and a flash of leg. The sheen of the yarn keeps the stockinette stitch surrounding the lace from being plain. The yarn drapes beautifully showing off those sexy curves. Knit in the round from the bottom-up, with...
Knitting: Mid-calf Socks
“Alice thought she had never seen such a curious croquet ground in her life: it was all ridges and furrows: the croquet balls were live hedgehogs, and the mallets live flamingoes, and the soldiers had to double themselves up and stand on their hands and feet, to make the arches.
Knitting: Mid-calf Socks
A sock pattern based on the Wonder “The Hanging Gardens of Babylon”. Designed with the help of Barbara Walker’s Stitchionaries and the amazing color of The Unique Sheep yarns.
Knitting: Knee-highs
“Either the hole was very deep, or she fell very slowly, for she had plenty of time as she went down to look about her and to wonder what was going to happen next. First, she tried to look down and make out what she was coming to, but it was too dark to see anything: then she looked at the sides…and noticed that they were filled with cupboards ...
Knitting: Ankle Sock
When I think of the Queen of Hearts from Alice in Wonderland, a few things jump out at me: the picture of a short, dumpy lady with a big head- and a couple of phrases: 1) “Off with their heads!” (of course); and 2) the little cards singing “We’re painting the roses red.”
Knitting: Mid-calf Socks
This is the perfect sock for both cat and Alice in Wonderland lovers. The cat’s smile is depicted along the sides of the sock- his paw prints walk up the front; and his tail lashes in lace up the back of the leg. The purple is reminiscent of Disney’s original cartoon of the Cheshire Cat.
Knitting: Cowl
This is a case of the yarn creating a design. I couldn’t bear to make socks with this luxurious yarn; the cashmere in it just had to be something that would wrap a neck and be snuggled. The colors begged to have a woodland theme; double moss stitch created a bark-like texture. As this was designed during the XXI Winter Olympics which began on V...
Knitting: Mid-calf Socks
This design was inspired by the main village of Rohan. The majority of the people in Edoras had long golden braids. The tombs of the kings were covered in simbelmyne- also called Evermind- delicate white flowers. At the entrance to Meduseld- the king’s hall in Edoras- the guards had shields with the emblem of the blazing sun on them. Hence the ...
Knitting: Pullover
“A lovely warm tunic, this sweater shows off its autumnal colors in a simple herringbone pattern.”
Knitting: Mid-calf Socks
This design was inspired by the Elven realm of Lorien in JRR Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings Trilogy. Lorien was the home of the Lady of the Galadhrim, Lady Galadriel. In this sock, the Mallorn trees are represented by the long cables. The delicate star-shaped Elanor flowers are depicted in lace between the golden Mallorns. The gold of the sock is ...
Knitting: Mid-calf Socks
This design was inspired by the mountain Caradhras that the Fellowship tried to cross but had to
Knitting: Pullover
Top down seamless with intarsia. Saddle shoulder sleeves extend into fingerless mitts.
Knitting: Mid-calf Socks
The son of Thranduil, king of the Wood Elves in Mirkwood, was Legolas, one of the Nine Walkers of the Fellowship of the Ring. An elf of elves, a prince indeed. An expert marksman and lover of the forest, his sock had to have images of his tools and his home on it in colors that would make one think of the oldest parts of a birch forest.
Knitting: Beanie, Toque
This is a beanie hat done in Entrelac. I did this last June, but did not publicize it b/c I submitted it to Knitty. It was declined, so I decided I wanted to make it public now.
Knitting: Mid-calf Socks
Inspired by the home of Bilbo, Frodo, and Sam; this sock is a fun knit. As Bilbo said: “It’s a dangerous business, Frodo, going out your front door. You step on the road, and if you don’t keep your feet, there’s no knowing where you might be swept off to.” Well, in Hobbiton, the roads are all connected to hobbit holes. On this sock, there are c...
Knitting: Mid-calf Socks
This design was inspired by Tom Bombadil from the Fellowship of the Ring by J.R.R Tolkien. He was a great character, but was not included in the movie (probably for the sake of length!). Anyway, according to Tom’s song: “Old Tom Bombadil is a merry fellow; Bright blue his jacket is, and his boots are yellow.” Tom’s wife, Goldberry, the River’s ...
Knitting: Slippers
Worked with 2 strands of yarn held together, this is a quick, quirky, extra fun knit.
Knitting: Mid-calf Socks
With 3 design options, and 2 intarsia image options, you have a lot of fun choices in how to make this sock! A fun knit. The intarsia is easier than you think.
