The gorgeous island of Santorini, Greece inspired this collection of three summer tops: one for the town, one for dinner, one for the beach…

Hoods are timeless. People already wore them thousands of years ago. The Romans called this garment “cucullus”, and it spread all over Europe: “gugel” in Medieval German, “cochall” in Irish, “coule” in Middle English, from which we get the modern English word “cowl”.

Mucagan is the Gaelic word for rosehips. Literally, it means “piglets”. How that came about, I am not sure. Maybe somebody thought that rosehips look like happy, well-nourished little pigs?

Lykaina is Ancient Greek for a female wolf and is sometimes used as a byname of Artemis.

Kira Nerys is one of my favourite characters in Star Trek Deep Space 9. She is courageous, skilled, resourceful, loyal, open-minded and fun. In some scenes she wears a white camisole with a striking cut-out pattern which was the original inspiration for this design.

Akrotiri ~ the beach. This is the second pattern in the Return to Santorini Collection. The other two are Emporeio and Skaros.

Wool from my local area, spun in Cornwall, I was in love immediately! With this design I wanted to showcase the beautiful sheen, texture and durability of this yarn in a contemporary garment that takes inspiration from athletic and streetwear styles, with clean lines and nifty details like a drawstring neckline and extra long sleeves with thumb...

When I first saw and touched this yarn, I immediately thought of comfy socks. And these two colours reminded me of ginger and chili. On those grey and rainy days we need warmth from the inside and outside. What’s cosier than sitting in your favourite chair with warm feet and a bowl of spicy soup? Even the chilliest day will be fun!

I love wearing handknit socks in my running shoes. When I mention this to other runners, they are usually shocked and try to lecture me on the benefits of complex technical fabrics. The funny thing is, wool has pretty much the same effects, just no fancy name.

Lately I have been drawn to slip stitch or mosaic patterns. I just love how they fuse colour and texture to create geometric ornaments of timeless beauty which look far more complex than they are. What better way to experiment and play around with them than on a small item like a sock?

The winding intertwining lines of traditional Alpine twist stitch cables seem to tell old stories, whisper ancient songs. Their charming “Celtic” character always invites me to play around with them and merge them into something new.

In Lithuanian folklore snakes are benevolent creatures associated with the goddesses of sun and earth. The Lithuanian word for snake, gyvatė, is related to words for “life” and “living”, and cognate to the English word quick, which originally meant “alive”.
