For this Lovely Lupine hat, I used four colors in the flowers. They could be worked in only one shade of any blue, purple or pink, and still be Lupines. For the stems, I added a chain stitch from bottom to top. This can also be accomplished with either a tapestry needle and embroidery technique, or with a crochet hook.

This pattern gives options for three hat styles, the tam, slouch and stocking cap. Designer used left over sock yarns, and especially enjoyed the effect given when using contrasting self-striping yarns. Alternating two dark yarns for the background and two light colored yarns for the design gave a fun look. Experiment and have fun!
