Crochet: Shawl / Wrap, Scarf
The wrap is designed as a short scarf designed to be work in the style of a cowl or neck wrap. It is also designed to use up as much of the yardage as possible so it is important to pay attention to the tension you are working at.
Knitting: Cowl
This pattern has a little bit of everything - stockingette, texture, cables, lace and embroidery but hopefully that makes it interesting rather than daunting.
Knitting: Bonnet
This is a one size pattern. Despite being designed for an adult head the same pattern could be used for younger people but with a different style that would be closer to a pixie hood rather than a bonnet. I’ve included pictures of it modelled on different head sizes to give you an idea of how it would look.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
This pattern is definitely not TV knitting, you will need to concentrate and keep track of the numbers/ pattern repeats but it is sectioned in such a way that its breaks up the more complicated sections with some more simple lace, or short sections of stocking stitch to give you a bit of a rest/ breathing space. Whilst my previous lace design w...
Knitting: Beanie, Toque
When my children were tiny my mum handed them down lots of clothes that had either belonged to me or my younger sister in the 1980s or 90s respectively. Amongst all the wonderful dresses and hand knit cardigans was a beautiful pink hat that looked like a sea urchin. I searched in vain to find the pattern to make more of them once the girls had ...
Knitting: Mid-calf Socks
I absolutely love hand knitted socks, the bolder and brighter the better. One of the benefits of living in the wet and gloomy North West of England is that I can pretty much wear hand knit socks all year round without overheating. Occasionally though we do get a brief flash of sunny weather and on those days I still want to wear hand knit socks...
Knitting: Scarf
Most of the year I am a shawl fan but when it comes to the dark, cold and snowy days of winter I have a hankering for big, chunky knit scarves. I don’t know if this is a throw back to my childhood when being told to wrap up warm by my mum always meant putting a big scarf on or whether its a result of binge watching cheesy Christmas films, at th...
Crochet: Beanie, Toque
This is a close fitting crochet beanie worked from the top down, in the round and seamless. You will need a full skein of the red yarn but less than half a skein of the green. It is a one size pattern (up to 57cm/ 22.5in head) and I have marked it as a child to teenager size. The model for my pattern is 10 years old but it also fits me as an ad...
Knitting: Necktie
I designed the original version of this tie for one of my younger brothers whilst he was going through his “Country Gent” phase – all tweed jackets and plus fours. Sadly he seems to have grown out of this phase and settled firmly into his standard farmers uniform but I still love the look of this tie and think that it would look equally fantast...
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
I am very lucky to live within walking distance of some absolutely beautiful countryside. As a family we can often be seen tramping over the hills armed with a picnic and an over excited dog. One such walk in to the moors inspired the colour choices and name for this shawl. Stoney pathways across boggy valley bottoms and a hoar frost on the gra...
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
Assuming I wasn’t the only person in the world who wanted to knit lace but struggled with all over, complex repeats I chose to design a shawl that I would enjoy to knit. It includes some lovely simple stocking stitch at the beginning to allow you to get used to the increase sequence for shaping the shawl before throwing the lace stitches in to ...
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
Errata - file has now been updated to include the K3 instruction at the end of rows 9 and 11.
Knitting: Fingerless Gloves
If you are familiar with spring time in the UK you will no doubt know that the weather is incredibly changeable. You can leave the house in the morning in all the woolly items you own and your big winter coat but by the afternoon you have jettisoned half of what you are wearing only to need to wrap up again half an hour later. These mitts are f...
Crochet: Cowl
Pattern gauge is actually given based on the size of the popcorn cluster square motifs, each of these should measure 12cm (4.5inches) by 12 cm (4.5inches) after gentle blocking.
Knitting: Beanie, Toque
This hat is for those cold winter days when the snow falls in giant flakes and I run outside to spin around in them like a small child, finding joy in each and every snowflake as they land on me. It is for the crisp winter days thick with frost when it is a delight to sit outside and read a book provided you are wrapped up well and have a hot d...
Knitting: Cowl, Beanie, Toque
The Coeden hat is a snug fitting beanie that covers your ears without coming too low down on your forehead. Also included in the pattern are instructions for making a co-ordinating cowl.
Knitting: Beanie, Toque
I have now created a PDF download for this pattern rather than a blog link to make it easier to use.
Knitting: Cowl
I have recently refreshed this pattern to make it available as a pdf download rather than just a blog link.
